iPipe Services were engaged to provide a solution for a DN800-900 Ductile Iron Concrete Lined (DICL) inspection to determine the integrity of the concrete lining. The inspection was challenging due to the position of the 2 potential entry points. One entry point was through a riser on the pond bank, however due to its complexity, it was not suitable to use. It was decided to insert the camera through the submerged inlet in the pond itself.
Two major challenges were faced on the project:
The iPipe Services team created an effective solution which meant going through a grate at the bottom of the pond, fabricating a custom-built camera insertion tool and developing a detailed methodology to successfully perform the operation.
The system was flushed through the upstream riser which provided a constant flow of fresh water through the inlet during the inspection, providing clear footage of the condition of the inlet.
